United though to Semi
Battling performance topped off by Gizzy strike
A performance that was more than appreciated by the watching spectators was enough too put United into the semi final of the Coventry League Cup for the second season running.
From the kick off the intention of the boys in green was clear to see , not to lose. A first half that saw the pride of the town pressure the ball from defence tomorrow Mulherne , who worked tirelessly as the spearhead of the attack resulted in confidence levels climbing to heights that have been unrivalled in previous games.
Not only was there fire in the belly but also a willingness to play quick thinking passing football.
A fantastic side line attitude from Webb and Haynes meant that when they came on they knew exactly what was expected and when the pair made their contribution nothing changed , United were still in control.
With United playing uphill in the second half the momentum should of moved to the Ajax but that wasn't the case at all. The green army were marching onward with a great determination and every challenge was carried out with accuracy. United had a lot of joy on the right wing where Burchell was linking well with Rumble. But it was from the left with a run that beat two players then was finished with a rasping strike by Gisbourne that the keepers could only get a soft hand to. 1-0 to United.
Ajax seemed to go up a gear but still the back three of Rumble , Barnett and Haynes stood strong to keep them away from Moorie in goal. A second half penalty was awarded to Bedworth only to be struck against the bar and the rebound kept out.
Rahal and Ball were sent back onto the field to replace the tired legs of Mulherne and Lemee who had both worked like Trojans to help secure the lead.
The game ended 1-0 to United a well deserved win. Once again the lads came out on top against title contenders. This sort of form must now carried into the league. Man of the match was awarded to Gisbourne , rightly so he was immense.
WELL DONE LADS YOU WERE SICK
