u14's run out of steam in league opener

Final ten minutes see off greenbacks

Promoted greenbacks U14's travelled to league champions Triumph Athletic and competed for a good hour before running out of steam. On a lush flat pitch both teams were enjoying a fair share of possession but the home side probably looking the more likely to break the deadlock. The Bedworth lads were defending admirably where the back line of Eyden,Caven, Panter and Freeman were restricting triumph to long range efforts that keeper Helijak was more than equal too with a couple of routine saves. Triumph did break the deadlock tho when for once they undid the rear guard and a firm low shot from a 12 yards squirmed under keeper Helijak. Utd nearly hit straight back but Harper's shot from the edge of the box was saved when a pass to Ross could have been the better option. Ross was working tirelessly in the lone striker role along with Harris, Hill and Gavin in the middle of the park but all the endeavour was struggling to get wide men Harvinder Singh and Harper clear down the flanks! The second period was also a good advert for junior football with the game still a closely fought contest but with the game approaching the final ten minutes , Helijak was adjudged to have fouled a striker and the resulting spot kick was despatched for a Triumph second. worse was to follow and when Jake Panter left the field the defence fell apart and triumph scored 3 very late goals to really flatter the scoreline,a result the greenback lads didn't deserve as the game was a lot closer than the final score would suggest!!
